The Doing In The Being

Do you get anxious about not getting “enough” done?dsc_0092

Do you feel guilty for having a quiet day?

Do you give yourself a hard time for “doing nothing”?

The glorification of busy in our world is out of control and unhealthy!!! People actually compete to be the “most busy” and “most exhausted”. These terms are worn like a badge of honour, but I ask in this, what are we truly honouring? It certainly isn’t ourselves, our loved ones or this planet.

In our busyness and exhaustion we lose sight of what is really important. We lose patience. Of course there are going to be times when we are busy and exhausted and there is little we can do about it AND there are so many more times when we can do something about it. When we can say NO!!!

I know especially as women we can be absolutely rubbish at this. At times we can walk around feeling the weight of the world rests solely on our shoulders. That if we don’t do this and don’t do this right now then the world will crumble around us and everyone else. HA!!! Sister you are strong and powerful and important but not in that way and nor do you need to be.

We need to find new power and strength. We need to find sustainable service. We need to find balance.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m not saying back out on anything you aren’t 100% excited about. I’m not giving a “get out of jail free card” that means you can bail when things get tough which can then leave others in an even worse position than you. This work of setting boundaries is tricky. This needs to be done with respect, with love, with compassion and with the understanding that being part of community and family and tribe at times means making sacrifices.

It is a balancing act and one that takes practice and can take some pain in the learning process. It takes compromise and conversation. It takes a willingness to have compassion for yourself and others in meeting somewhere in between.

Oh beautiful woman it can be tough AND trust me…. It can be beautiful!!!
